Why Does It Seem Dental Assistants Make More Money Than Medical Assistants?

I’ve been browsing job ads and it seems dental asst make more $$$ then medical asst. Has anyone else noticed this? How can this be when medical assistants have more intense learning and training? I just wanted the opinions of others in this matter. Thanks!

I am a current Dental Assistant graduate. I haven’t found a job yet. I was just wondering if there are any dentist that will allow me to volunteer and learn Front office also..I would love to learn eagles software or dentrix so that I can be crossed trained in front and back office..Or will someone be willing to just show me how to do this?? Difficulty Becoming a Dental Assistant! Please Help?

I am a student in the Los Angeles area. I am currently in school taking prerequisites for the Dental Hygiene Program at USC. I just started, so I have a way to go. I have been trying to get a job as a Dental Assistant in the meanwhile, but so far, no luck. I worked at 2 different places as an assistant, and both fired me. They said they don’t have time to train. I learned very quickly. I am allready familiar with most of the appliances and setting up/cleaning up. I am also 100% familiar with the sterilization process. I don’t want to give up my hopes so I am looking for another job in the field, just to gain experience until I get into the Dental Hygiene Program.

Basically speaking. my question is, how can I get a job as a Dental Assistant (w/out assisting school) and keep it!? What are Dentist’s mainly looking for? How can I convince a Dentist that training me would be a good idea and that I really am reliable and a quick-learner and a hard worker??? Please help guys,I’m desperate!

What Steps Should I Take to Become a Dental Assistant?

I’m starting my first year of college with plans of becoming a dental assistant..but I feel like I’ve been getting the run-around throughout this whole process! I’ve looked into several community colleges and I’m confused on the next steps I should take.

My first concern is that I’ve read terrible reviews on most dental assistant programs…from the price… to the “hands-on training”..
My guidance counselor suggested I take pre-reqs to get into a dental assistant course at a nearby college..biology, chemistry..the usual. If I do successfully complete the pre-reqs and obtain my certification..how easy is it to get an entry level job at a dental office with no prior experience in the dental field?
By no experience I mean I’ve worked as a fast food manager for a few years, a carpenter and a secretary. And if you think that sounds bad on a resume, let’s top it.. I’ve been receiving unemployment for the past 5months. Despite that, I’m a bright, hard-working team player that’s dependable and reliable.
